Jesse Lingard, a soon-to-called ex-Manchester United midfielder, has received a proposal from West Ham to play at the London Stadium once again.

When his Old Trafford contract expires on June 30, 2022, the 29-year-old will formally become a free agent.

Recall that in the second half of the 2020–21 season, Lingard enjoyed his time with the Hammers on loan, starting 16 Premier League games and scoring nine goals.

However, United refused to work with a competitor for a spot in Europe, thus the club refused to permit Lingard to go for a second loan spell at West Ham in January 2022.

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Ellis Lingard, an English professional footballer who plays as a winger or attacking midfielder for Premier League club Manchester United and the England squad, was born on December 15, 1992.

He is one of only three players to score in each of the last three finals. He has won the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, FA Community Shield, and EFL Cup.

In 2012, while on loan at Leicester City, Lingard made his senior debut. He also spent time on loan at Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Derby County in 2013–14 and 2015–16.

He made his debut for Manchester United’s first team in 2015 under Louis van Gaal, and remained there regularly until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over in 2018, after which he battled to reclaim his spot in the team.

Lingard rediscovered his form in 2021 while on loan at West Ham United, a rival Premier League team.

Currently, his time with United is over, and is looking for a new club this summer.

Prior to making his senior international debut in October 2016, he represented England at the under-17 and under-21 levels. He later represented his nation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where England finished fourth.

While on a six-month loan at West Ham in the 2020–21 season, the England midfielder scored nine goals in 16 games.

Lingard reunited with former Manchester United manager David Moyes when he joined West Ham United on loan on January 29, 2021, and stayed there through the rest of the season.

Lingard scored twice in West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on his debut, which occurred on February 3, 2021.

The farthest a player had ever advanced with the ball before scoring in the Premier League this season was Lingard, who advanced the ball 52 meters in a match against Wolves on April 5.

In his first 10 Premier League appearances for West Ham, Lingard contributed nine goals and four assists, continuing his strong play from his previous loan period. In the team’s 2-3 loss to Newcastle United on April 17, he scored his eighth goal from the penalty spot.

He now had more Premier League goals for West Ham than he had ever amassed in a single season at Manchester United thanks to the goal.

Lingard won both the Premier League Player of the Month and the Premier League Goal of the Month awards for his April goal-scoring efforts as well as his goal against Wolves. During his loan period, he played 16 games and contributed to 9 goals and 5 assists.

Meanwhile, Alphonse Areola, a goalkeeper, is expected to be signed by West Ham from Paris St-Germain soon.

Areola, who spent last season on loan with the Hammers, can only leave the French Ligue 1 winners permanent if West Ham United can pay nothing less than £10.5 million.

Areola made an impression the previous season while playing in goal for West Ham during their run to the Europa League semifinal, where they were defeated by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The established first-choice Lucasz Fabianski, who agreed to a one-year contract deal in May, and the 29-year-old are expected to compete for the top spot in the coming season.

The Hammers, who are traveling to Scotland on Monday for their preseason training camp at St Andrews, are entering what looks to be a busy week.

The Premier League side are awaiting UEFA to announce the team they will face in the Europa Conference League play-off. UEFA is expected to announce the draw on August 1st.
