Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that he has been talking to FC Barcelona over the possibility of being the next football manager of the club.

Initially, Xavi who is the current coach of Qatari club Al Sadd said he was focused on his job at the club which sounded like he wasn’t ready to leave the club for FC Barcelona.

But on Wednesday, November 3, the former FC Barcelona midfielder revealed how excited he is about the possibility of returning to his former club as a coach.

Xavi Hernandez noted that both FC Barcelona and Al Sadd know his stance, adding that he hopes the two clubs reach an agreement soonest.

“I have been talking to Barca for days, it’s all set. The clubs know my position and I hope it gets resolved soon,” Xavi said.

“The clubs are talking. I can’t say much but I’m a positive person. It’s about common sense. They need to reach an agreement. That’s the issue…

“I wish I go back home. Going back to Barcelona would be spectacular and exciting.”

Since FC Barcelona sacked Ronald Koeman last month, Xavi Hernandez has been the club’s favorite for the coaching job.

But Xavi currently has a two-year deal with his current club, Al Sadd which has made it difficult for him to return to FC Barcelona.

Based on the two-year deal extension Xavi signed with Al Sadd in May 2021, any club that wants to appoint the Spanish tactician would have to pay a €10 million release clause which Barcelona are trying to beat down.

Initially, the Qatari club challenged FC Barcelona to send delegates to Doha if they wanted Xavi so badly. Barca complied with the request and sent delegates to negotiate with the club.

However, the Qatari side are finding it difficult to let the Spanish tactician go even though Xavi has publicly declared that he is interested in returning to Spain.

“We welcome the visit of the administrative delegation from Barcelona, and we appreciate and respect this,” Al-Ali said in a statement on Al Sadd’s official Twitter account.

“The club’s position is clear from the beginning – we are committed to keeping our coach Xavi with us and we cannot have him leave at this sensitive time of the season.”
