The 2023/24 Premier League season was filled with thrilling matches, stunning goals, and unforgettable moments.
However, amidst the excitement and drama, there were also several missed chances left fans and players alike shaking their heads in disbelief.
From shocking misses in front of goal to crucial opportunities squandered at pivotal moments in matches, the 2023-2024 Premier League season will linger in the minds of football enthusiasts for a while.
Below are some of the biggest goalscoring opportunities missed during the just concluded 2023-2024 Premier League.
Erling Haaland| Man City vs Man United, March 3
The spinning pass from Foden was perfectly placed for the City forward, who had a golden opportunity to score one of the easiest goals of the game.
However, Erling Haaland’s finishing was surprisingly lackluster, especially considering his skill level as a striker.
Armando Broja| Chelsea vs Sheffield Dec 16
This was one of the worst misses not just in the 2024 Premier League season, but in the entire history of the league.
Broja seemed to be anticipating the pass from Palmer, but he should have demonstrated more professionalism in his positioning and reaction to the ball, which was right in front of an empty net.
Luca Koleosho | Burnley at Brentford, Oct. 21
It’s frustrating to see a missed opportunity like that, especially with no defenders in sight.
This miss feels terrible than either of the previous ones mentioned earlier.
Diego Carlos| Aston villa vs Liverpool May 13
Without gainsaying, playing against a big team in the Premier League and missing a good chance like this one is infuriating.
If players are booked for wasteful opportunities, Diego Carlos should have received a red card for this.
Scott McTominay| Man Utd vs Chelsea Dec 6.
I wouldn’t consider this as a wasteful opportunity because he reacted to Bruno Fernandez’s assist timely.
Also, for McTominay to have managed to make a rebound in this case is just quite awesome. Luck was not just on his side.
Timo Werner| Fulham vs Spurs March 16
Upon close examination of Timo Werner’s missed opportunity, it became clear that his speed was not enough to control the ball.
Nonetheless, even a defender should be capable of converting a chance like this.
David Datro Fofana | Burnley vs. Brentford, March 16
Burnley’s inability to convert chances could be their downfall, leading to another season in the championship.
Despite this, they still managed to score slightly more goals than anticipated, excluding these two shots.
Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa vs. Fulham, Nov. 12
Despite Ollie Watkins being a top-tier player in the Premier League, he is not immune to making mistakes on the pitch.
Every player, no matter how skilled or talented, is capable of errors and slip-ups.
This just goes to show that even the best players have their off days and make avoidable mistakes from time to time.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin| Everton vs New Castle Dec 7
Just as Calvert-Lewin perfectly balanced the ball before skillfully sending it past the goalkeeper, his unorthodox approach could be viewed as somewhat unprofessional.
The way he nonchalantly looped the ball in seemed almost childlike, earning him a moment of criticism.
