Brazilian winger Willian has acknowledged that he regrets exiting Chelsea for North London Side, Arsenal in 2020 after spending 6 years with the Blues.
He penned a deal with Arsenal in 2020 after leaving Chelsea on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with the West London outfit.
Willian couldn’t repeat his impressive form at Chelsea with Arsenal. He exited the Emirates after spending just a season.
The 34-year-old left Arsenal and returned home to Brazil signing for Corinthians in 2021 prior to shockingly coming back to the Premier League with Fulham this campaign.
The Brazilian International conversation before the game against Arsenal
Before Fulham lock horns with the Gunners on Sunday, Willian had a conversation with Sky Sports concerning his time at the high-flying North London side.
When questioned on if he regrets exiting Chelsea for North London in 2020, Willian said: “Yeah. I wish I’d never left.
“Of course it’s easy to say now, but when I stop and think about all the situations…
“I say to myself ‘I wish I never left’.
“It’s life. I’m happy now at Fulham, enjoying myself there, this is life.”
He was asked the reason why his time with Arsenal was a failure, Willian added: “They are flying now.
“I don’t know. It was in the middle of the… it was changing a lot. I was excited when I signed with them.
“I was training hard but it just didn’t work, and that’s it.”
The Brazilian attacker garnered 339 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 63 goals and accumulating 62 assists.
He lifted the English Premier League on two separate occasions alongside winning the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Europa League while he was at Chelsea.
After his switch to Arsenal, he scored just once in 37 matches in a season that was utterly awful for the Gunners as they finished 8th on the log.
Willian has found his spark since he came back to England, scoring three goals and making three assists for Fulham as they battle to finish in a European position this season.
Clubs Willian has represented in the past
The Brazilian has played for several clubs in his career namely; Corinthians, Shakhtar Donetsk, Anzi Makhachkala, Chelsea and Arsenal.
He recently took home the goal of the month award for the month of February for his decisive strike against Nottingham Forest on the 11th of February 2023.
For Brazil, he has made 70 appearances and scored 9 goals, he lifted the 2019 Copa América title in addition to the South American Youth Championship which he won in Paraguay in 2007.
Willian signed a three-year-deal with Arsenal but left after a torrid 12 month spent with the club, however, a reunion between Willian, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal could be witnessed later today at the Craven Cottage.
