According to multiple media outlets, there have been whispers that Barcelona chiefs had a meeting in Doha with former player Xavi to discuss becoming their new manager.

This comes after two late goals from Atletico’s Alvaro Morata and Angel Correra saw Diego Simeone’s side seal a 3-2 victory to advance in the finals of the competition. Ernesto Valverde, who was widely criticized edges closer to a sack after Spanish Super Cup defeat by Atletico Madrid.

The Barcelona boss has admitted that talk about whether he will remain in charge at the Nou Camp is ‘inevitable’ after his side crashed out of the Spanish Super Cup to Atletico Madrid on Thursday. Valverde, whose current contract at Barcelona is set to expire in June, but there is reportedly the option to renew it for another year, is coming under increasing scrutiny.

Xavi is the manager of Qatar outfit Al Sadd and the Catalan giants believe he is the man to replace under pressure Ernesto Valverde. The retired Spanish footballer spent 17 years at Barcelona before moving to Al Sadd where he finished his playing career.
