Haller underwent a medical examination when he complained that he was “unwell” while training on Monday, July 18, 2022. Hours after, Dortmund announced that Sebastien Haller has been diagnosed with a testicular tumor.

In a statement Haller released on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, the prolific striker expressed his gratitude to his new team and vowed to ‘come back stronger.’

In the statement which he shared on his social media pages, Haller said: ‘I want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all these many warm messages received I was very moved to see these beautiful reactions and I even feel like I don’t deserve so much.

‘But I know that thanks to you it will only be one more test on our way. See you very soon in the ground to celebrate our next victories.

‘Thank you all for your many messages of support and affection since yesterday’s announcement. My family and I thank you. I will now focus on my recovery to come back stronger.’

The former West Ham striker Sebastian Haller had a successful season at Ajax but recently signed a £31 million agreement to join Dortmund.

Less than a week after he joined the German Bundesliga club, the club released a statement on Monday saying that Sebastian Haller had to leave the BVB training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland early due to illness and has already returned to Dortmund. They added that the 28-year-old Ivory Coast international reported feeling sick after Monday morning’s drill.

The testicle’s tumor was eventually found during the day’s thorough medical testing. Additional testing will be done in a specialized medical facility during the next few days.

After the announcement, Borussia Dortmund requested that the privacy of the player and his family should be respected while additional examinations will take place in a specialized medical facility over the next few days.

The club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl acknowledged that everyone was surprised by the news but vowed that Dortmund will assist Haller in getting better.

As mentioned earlier, Haller joined Dortmund after an outstanding campaign in which he scored 34 goals for Ajax. With 34 goals for Ajax in all competitions, Haller had the highest scoring season of his career in the 2021-2022 season.

Haller stood out in the Champions League, scoring 11 goals in just eight games before the Amsterdam team was eliminated in the round of 16.

Erling Haaland left Dortmund earlier this summer to join Manchester City, and Haller was brought in as Haaland’s replacement.
