West Ham United have reached an agreement with former Wolves manager Julen Lopetequi to replace David Moyes as the club’s new manager.

West Ham’s agreement with the former Sevilla manager followed a long round of talks with the Spaniard which is said to have begun in April 2024.

They doubled down on their move for Lopetequi after they fell out on their attempt to broker a deal with Sporting Lisbon manager and former Liverpool target Ruben Amorim.

Futballnews understands Ruben Amorim flew to London for talks with the Hammers but nothing was agreed upon.

With a few games left to wrap up the season, and David Moyes set to leave, the club doubled down in their search for a replacement before stumbling on Julen Lopetequi.

According to reports, Julen Lopetequi also attracted the interest of Bayern Munich but the Spaniard wanted a return to the Premier League.

Now, the West London outfit have reached an agreement to have Julen Lopetequi replace David Moyes, as per Fabrizio Romano.

“Julen Lopetegui has agreed terms with West Ham to become new head coach replacing David Moyes from next season.

“Lopetegui has accepted #WHUFC proposal, ready to proceed to formal stages.

“Details being finalised then contracts will be signed but agreement in place,” Fabrizio Romano quotes.

Nevertheless, all the boxes in the deal are expected to be ticked before the season runs out with Lopetequi expected to assume the reins and take charge of West Ham United’s preseason campaign.

West Ham United will be the second Premier League outfit Julen Lopetequi has managed after his spell with Wolves.

He was reportedly considered a favorite for the job after he led Wolves out of the relegation zone to finish 13th on the Premier League table last season.

Lopetequi left Wolves early this season following a fallout with the club’s hierarchy and has been without a new offer since then. He will be expected to challenge for European places next season as he sets out for a new chapter in his managerial career with the Hammers.
