Premier League Club West Ham are set to rival English counterpart Liverpool for the services of Ruben Amorim.
Portuguese outlet CNN Portugal reports negotiations have begun between the West London outfit and the highly-rated Portuguese manager.
Social media footage shared by the Portuguese outlet showed Ruben Amorim and his contingents boarding a plane to the UK for scheduled talks with West Ham United on Monday, April 22.
An update of the outcome of the negotiations, as shared by Fabrizio Romano, reveals Amorim, who is also targeted by Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp, has yet to reach an agreement with West Ham United.
The two parties have reportedly maintained the status quo ante after West Ham presented their project to the Portuguese.
The report also confirms Liverpool are still in the race to sign Amorim but are yet to open talks with the young tactician.
According to Portuguese outlets, Amorim has a release clause of £12.1m attached to his Sporting Lisbon contract and will be available to English clubs.
Meanwhile, he has a contract with Lisbon until 2026 but is reportedly open to leaving the club in the summer.
Despite West Ham’s sudden interest in the 39-year-old, Liverpool are considered favorites to sign Amorim although they are yet to open talks with the two-time Primeira Liga winner.
Now, they are set to be locked in a tight race with West Ham for the services of the fast-rising manager.
Futballnews understands West Ham are likely to part ways with their manager David Moyes at the end of the season, hence the hunt for his replacement.
Liverpool are also set to lose Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season after the German announced he will leave the club in the summer.
It is understood Amorim is ready to take up a new chapter in his managerial career in the Premier League. However, it is yet unclear whether he will pit tent with West Ham in West London or settle at Merseyside with Liverpool.
As of the time of filing this report, he has yet to make his decision but is reportedly set to do so soon after discussion with his agents.
