Wesley Fofana is frustrated that his dream of moving to Stamford Bridge may be truncated because the Foxes have rejected two bids from coach Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Wesley Fofana, the 21-year-old center-back for Leicester City is desirous to move to Chelsea to increase his chances of being picked to play at the World Cup in December.
The youngster who was acquired by Leicester in October 2020 for £35 million agreed to a 5-year-old contract extension in March 2022 which would elapse in 2027.
So far, the French defender has made 37 apperances for The Foxes and would love to join Chelsea as this would give him the chance of playing in the Champions League, a proposed ticket to increase his chances of joining the French quad for the World Cup in Qatar.
Fofana’s drive to move to Stamford Bridge may be inspired by Chelsea’s legend, Didier Drogba who played for Marseille, Wesley’s hometown. Chelsea made an offer of £60 million for the defender but the Foxes rejected it. Chelsea repoetedly made another offer in the region of £70 million which Leicester City has rejected too.
It is reported that Leicester would not release Wesley Fofana for anything short of the sum of £80 million. Should Chelsea withdraw their offer due to price, Wesley’s desire to join the Blues may not materialize.
Fofana’s expectation was that the Foxes would accept a considerable deal from a top European club. He is reportedly frustrated seeing that Leicester had rejected two bids for him already.
Reports claimed that amidst the dragging negations between Chelsea and Leicester City, Wesley Fofana has already agreed on personal terms with coach Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Leicester City believe that the 21-year-old defender is more valuable than Harry Maguire who they sold to the Red Devils in 2019 for £80 million. This is so because of Wesley Fofana’s age and potential to get much better as a centre-back. Hence, the club is determined to sell the French defender for nothing less than £80million.
Fofana on the other hand believes that this reasoning is not really accurate considering the differences in achievements in their careers.
Though Maguire was 26 years old when he transfered ot Manchester United, he was already an established English defender who actually played in the World Cup in Russia 2018 and has been in the EPL for three seasons.
Fofana on the other hand is yet to register even one cap for his country, and last season was his debut season in the English Premier League.
Despite his displeasure, Wesley Fofana intends to keep things professional by playing well for his current team since he still has 5 years left on this contract. He played full time in both matches of the current season for the Foxes and continues to train with the team despite the transfer saga.
He thinks the team should be more factual in their view of him and hopefully not stand against his dream of playing for the Blues just like his role model – Didier Drogba did.
After Leicester’s defeat at the Emirates Stadium, Leicester City manager Brendan Rogers clears the air by stating that “they are not looking to sell Fofana”.
He added: “Naturally, if there is interest from another club, that is looked at by the club.
“He’s a top young defender and there are not too many around his age. Another year here for him at least would be really important for his development, but he is quite calm and relaxed in the situation.
“He is aware of the interest. He understands where we are as a club and where we see him.”
