It is no longer news that Juventus defeated Barcelona at Camp Nou on Tuesday night, but the battle for Greatest of All Time (GOAT) between Cristiano Ronaldo, who finally got his Champions League goals against the Catalan giant, and Lionel Messi seemed to have been settled at least for now.

Both players have been consistent for the past decade and they are still playing at the highest level. They met last night but it was Ronaldo that had the last laugh, scoring his 18th and 19th goal against Messi-led Barcelona.

Barcelona had been taunting Juve about the GOAT status on social media before the games. Having won the first leg 2-0 at Turin, Barca was backing in that euphoria with another graphic design that showed the laurels won by the duo, putting Messi in the GOAT category above his Portuguese counterpart.

After the Blaugrana conquered Turin 2-0 on October 28, Barca’s official account tweeted: ‘We are glad you were able to see the GOAT on your pitch, Juventus!’ with an image of Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo missed the game at the Allianz Juventus Stadium due to COVID-19.

Messi v Ronaldo: Juventus kept GOAT promise to Barcelona

As promised after losing 2-0 at Camp Nou, Juventus took revenge for a cheeky Barcelona tweet about the ‘GOAT’ when they won.

Juve had replied Barca’s tweet then: ‘You probably looked it up in the wrong dictionary. We’ll bring you the right one at Camp Nou.’

So, after Ronaldo scored two of the three Juventus goals during a 3-0 victory that took the Bianconeri to the top spot in the Champions League group, the revenge was served.

‘We kept our word: we brought it!’, Juve wrote with a picture of Ronaldo jubilating.
