Wayne Rooney has informed Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag that Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford must be rested for the match against Liverpool on Monday.
Cristiano Ronaldo has asked for permission to leave Manchester United this season after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League. Months after making the request, Ronaldo has not found a preferable suitor yet, and his agent is working hard to get him one before September 1.
On the other hand, Marcus Rashford has failed to score any goals in the Premier League since January and has not given 100% for the team on the pitch. There is speculation that he might join PSG.
Both Ronaldo and Rashford were on the pitch when Brighton and Brentford defeated them. They failed to help the team win matches and currently sit in the 20th position, conceding nine goals across two fixtures.
Hence, Rooney feels Erik Ten Hag should change his starting 11 to give room for fresh legs against Liverpool. Also, Wayne Rooney has urged the Dutch manager to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave.
According to the retired England international who is now the manager of MLS club, DC United said, Manchester United should get a new number 9 who will stay for 3 to 4 years, which can help the team succeed.
Wayne Rooney told the manager to start Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Fred because they have the right attitude, but Ronaldo and Rashford have little to do with Manchester United’s attack and defense.
“Erik Ten Hag should be allowed to build the team with his philosophy and playing style. Erik Ten Hag should not relent more on Cristiano Ronaldo as the main striker”, he was quoted as saying.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be 38 years old next year and does not seem to be physically fit and has lost his touch. Although he was the highest goal scorer for Manchester United last season, age is catching up with the player.
Many pundits predicted a win for Liverpool because of Manchester United’s recent form. Liverpool defeated Manchester United last season on a 9-0 aggregate.
Anthony Martial has returned to training and will be in contention to play against Liverpool. Erik should risk starting him as he played against the Reds in the preseason and scored against them.
It is a must-win for the Red Devils in their bid to move away from the relegation zone.
Manchester United have already signed Casemiro and are still in the transfer market for Frenkie De Jong, Gakpo and Anthony to bring their spending to £300 million.
Manchester United are also looking forward to signing a striker and have their eye on Ivan Toney and Sasa Kaladjzic. The team has struggled in front of goal this season, even with the number of attackers they have.
Erik Ten Hag needs to be ruthless in his selection and should not be bothered about how the media intervene in every issue of the club if he wants to succeed.
