Wayne Rooney has revealed his United legends which included Cristiano Ronaldo and former boss Sir Alex Ferguson but excluded himself.
The former United attacker left himself as well as Eric Cantona and Paul Scholes out of the ‘Mount Rushmore’ of Manchester United legends.
Speaking in an Interview with CBS’s ‘Morning Footy’ show, the current DC United boss reacted to the show’s list of top United legends and was asked of his opinion.
The desk made a statement before letting Rooney drop his list, they said; ‘We had Sir Alex [Ferguson]… Bobby Charlton, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes.’
Wayne Rooney, however, said: ‘Yeah I think for me, Sir Alex of course will be on there. I think Cristiano Ronaldo will be on there. And Ryan Giggs would be on there and probably George Best.’
He went on to say that there are ‘so many people that could be on there,’ while absentees from his list include Sir Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, and Eric Cantona.
“I really wanted to play for Alex Ferguson, Just the way he worked and how successful he was and of course he had great players throughout the years and its a really historical club…”
“Me being from Liverpool – an Evertonian – I always had an eye on Manchester United purely because of Sir Alex Ferguson. I just loved the way he was and hoped that one day I could play under him, and thankfully I finally managed to do that,” he concluded.
Rooney who is currently the manager of DC United of MLS is having a rough season as he and his team have struggled through their first eight matches.
DC United under Rooney currently sits 11th in the League table after getting just eight points from two wins and two draws.
DC United are set to travel down to Florida on Saturday where they take on Orlando City SC in the Exploria Stadium.
Rooney Names Cristiano Ronaldo Despite Public Fallout
Rooney raised so many fans’ eyebrows as he named Cristiano Ronaldo in the ‘Mount Rushmore’ Manchester United legends despite recent fallout.
Rooney saw his former teammate criticize him during the now-infamous Piers Morgan interview, which aired just before the 2022 World Cup.
Pier Morgan, who hosted the interview asked Ronaldo if he thought that Rooney was jealous of him, he replied: “Probably, because he finished his career in his 30s. I’m still playing at a high level, I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him, which is true.”
Who knows if their friendship will get back on course after this nomination by Wayne Rooney?
