Napoli ended their 33 years wait for the Serie A at the Friuli stadium where they took on Udinese in a title-winning match.
After unfazing teeming Napoli fans with a disappointing result against Salernitana at the Diego Armando Maradona in Naples, the Gil Azzurri needed to get their axed right this time against Udinese.
Napoli needed a win against Salernitana to clinch the trophy before the Udinese clash but they needed a draw against Udinese to clinch the title.
It was a nightmare start at the Friuli stadium. Lovric dealt Napoli title hopes a big blow when he opened the scoring for Udinese early in the first half.
In the second half, Napoli were back to the challenge with Serie A top scorer and prolific Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, coming to their rescue to level the scores.
The game ended with Napoli clinching the Serie A trophy after settling for a 1-1 draw at full time.
However, some fans nearly ruin the festive atmosphere at the Friuli Stadium at the end of the game.
At the blast of the final whistle, Napoli fans went ballistic plunging into the pitch in their large numbers to celebrate the club’s landmark feat.
The on-pitch celebrations were marred with violent scenes. Viral footages show some fans caught up in violent brawl after they invaded the pitch in large numbers.
The fans squared up against each other in bitter duels. Some fans could be seen using belts to whip their assailants as tempers flared.
The securities made attempts to intervene in the crisis and restore order but the situation seemed to have spilled out of control.
However, no Napoli player was hurt in the incident as some fans mobbed some of the players during the pitch invasion.
Victor Osimhen leads wild dressing room celebrations
After the win, Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, who scored Napoli’s trophy-winning goal in the game, was seen leading a wild dressing room celebrations after the Gil Azzurri ended three decades wait for the Scudetto.
Osimhen jumped on the table at the center of the dressing room with other Napoli players surrounding him as they sang and danced together.
Victor Osimhen was once again on the spotlights in the game against Udinese as he equaled George Weah’s record for the most number of goals (46) scored by an African player in Serie A.
The Manchester United and Chelsea target is still leading the 2022/23 Serie A top scorers list with 22 goals from 27 games and will hopefully add the golden boot to the Serie A title at the end of the season.
