Victor Osimhen Is The African Player With The Most Goals Scored in A Single Serie A Season

    Victor Osimhen, the goal poacher of Italian side SSC Napoli has become the African player with the most goals scored in a single Serie A season.

    During Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Udinese, Osimhen  netted his 22nd league goal of the campaign, making him the Serie A top scorer and breaking the record previously held by Samuel Eto’o.

    Eto’o scored 21 goals in the 2010/11 campaign for Inter Milan, who couldn’t retain the Serie A title they lifted a season earlier under Jose Mourinho.

    Victor Osimhen based on his goal against 12th placed Udinese also equalled the record of Liberian great, George Weah for the total amount of goals netted in the Serie A by an African player with 46 goals.

    Osimhen has powered the Neapolitans to their Italian Serie A title since the 1989/90 season where Diego Armando Maradona led the side to the crown.

    The Nigerian is really loved in Naples as fans admire and even idolize the 24-year-old due to his exploits since he joined the side.

    Following a scramble in the area resulting from a corner kick, Victor Osimhen fired home a shot through the crowd of players to assist Napoli in securing the 2022/23 scudetto.

    The Nigerian has been rumored to be on the verge of penning a deal to join Bavarian giants Bayern Munich with Sadio Mane moving the other way.

    He has also been linked with a possible move to the English Premier League with Chelsea and Manchester United being notable names reported to be eyeing Victor Osimhen.

    Anyway, Osimhen told Sky Sports Italia that a move away from Napoli was far from his mind as he “couldn’t wait” to return to Naples and enjoy the Serie A triumph with the fans.

    The Nigerian said: “I’m thrilled with this victory, ‘I’m happy for me, for the team and for the fans.

    “I can’t wait to come back in Naples to embrace our fans, even though tonight I already felt the warmth of the people. I’m happy for all the Neapolitans. 

    “I scored the Scudetto goal, it’s true, but anyone else could have scored it.

    “I feel like a leader and I never give up. Future? Now I want to enjoy this historic moment, this is not the time to think about my future.’

    Victor Osimhen also became the second Nigerian player ever to win the Serie A title after Obafemi Martins.

    As earlier stated, Victor Osimhen went past Samuel Eto’o to become the African with the most goals scored in a single Serie A Campaign.
