Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauded squad consistency, admitting that it was due to the strong presence of mentality at the Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are seated on the second place of the log in the English topflight. This was as a result of the nine-match unbeaten run they were sustained at the club, should they beat Aston Villa in the New year, they will be leveled with league leaders, Liverpool.
‘Definitely the mentality is stronger,’ Solskjaer said at a press conference.
The Norwegian warned that the players cannot have their way to the squad through shady means, as Solskjaer said the players are now feeling privileged to play at the shores of the club.
‘I think we have competition for places which means you can not go around thinking that you can just fake your way being part of this team because you only deserve to be in a team you contribute to.‘
The Man United boss observed that the rationale behind the club’s strong position in the league is strength within themselves such that Solskjaer could not fathom a resolution in the choice of the starting eleven of the team.
‘I think everyone has just realised they are privileged to be part of Manchester United, such a fantastic club with a fantastic history. When you are here, enjoy it as much as you can and maybe experience some fantastic times.’ He thought.
United have not named the same line-up in consecutive games this campaign, with clubs enduring a more gruelling schedule than usual after the coronavirus pandemic shrunk the 2020-21 calendar.
The former United player believes his squad can topple any side due to this strong mentality amidst them, despite facing injury problems which is inevitable.
“We have a strong squad. We’ve rotated a lot. We’ve not really found a settled XI, which I don’t think this season is going to be about anyway.’ He emphasised
“It’s going to be about the squad, it’s going to be about the 24, 25, 26 players and I think, towards the end of the season, that’ll help us.”
He added that players will have to be angry with him due to the fact that they are starting from the bench until after they are given playing time.
Meanwhile, Uruguayan hitman, Edinson Cavani will not be in the party that will battle Villa today, due to his suspension on racism, as well as Victor Lindelof has been sidelined due to a back injury he sustained. But Solskjaer is confident his side have the depth to cope.’
“It has to be done this way. Getting injuries and suspensions will happen. I think our squad is well capable of being ready for every game.”He said.
