Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa has cleared the air via his social media accounts after he unintentionally sparked retirement fears with a cryptic post on Tuesday.
The defender, who was in tears as he was taken off on a stretcher, unintentionally led Aston Villa fans to believe that he was planning to retire with his Instagram post.
He posted a black and white picture of himself sitting with his head looking to the ground alongside a caption, which reads: “Grateful for all your support. I’ll share an update with you all later today.”
However, Mings calmed concerns by providing a positive update and thanking supporters on social media with a video of his recovery.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter) Tyrone Mings wrote: “Can’t get rid of me that easy! You’re all helping me way more than you realize 💜”
In the video he shared, a voiceover of Tyrone Mings added: “I just wanted to start this off by saying thank you so much for all the messages people have sent me. I’ve read pretty much every single one.”
“The cards, gifts in the post, tweets, everything has been so appreciated and helped me through this early stage (in my recovery). I want to share some bits with you and give you an insight into my early stages so you can see what recovering from a long-term injury looks like.”
In August, Mings took to his social media account after suffering a serious injury and said: “I don’t even know where to start but to say thank you for all of your messages of support Villa fans. From the day I came here on loan I’ve given everything on the pitch, I’ll now give everything off the pitch to come back even better, whilst supporting the team”
Tyrone Mings went on to add: “To the players, fans & staff connected to @NUFC I also want to say thank you. The applause, the messages & the medical support I received on the day was really appreciated.”
Mings joined Aston Villa on loan from Bournemouth in January 2019 and went on to make an immediate impact, helping them get promoted to the Premier League after beating Derby in the Championship play-off final.
Aston Villa signed him on a permanent basis in the summer of 2019 and he has grown to be a vital part of Villa’s defense, while also making 18 appearances for England in that time.

Tyrone Deon Mings is an English footballer who was born on 13th March, 1993 and plays as a centre-back for Aston Villa and the England national team.
On the final day of the 2012–13 season, Mings made his Football League debut after joining Ipswich Town in December 2012.
He stayed with Ipswich for two more seasons before moving on to AFC Bournemouth in 2015, where he made his Premier League debut in August of that year.
In January 2019, he made a loan move to Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2018–19 campaign, aiding the team in advancing to the Premier League via the Championship Play-Offs. Mings joined Aston Villa on a long-term basis in July 2019.
In August 2019, Mings gained his first call-up to the senior England team.
In October of this year, he made his senior debut. Mings was chosen for the England team in June 2021 in preparation for the UEFA Euro 2020 competition.
