Xavi Hernandez could reportedly be persuaded to remain at Barcelona if two distinct conditions are met.
In January 2024, Xavi revealed that he would exit the Blaugrana side after two and half years at the helm.
Xavi Hernandez expressed that his decision was based on allowing the club to experience something new, as he felt that he couldn’t give more than has given thus far.
Barcelona are on a 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions following their win over Cadiz on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
The Spanish side have been brilliant in recent weeks and they displayed that brilliance in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixture against Paris Saint Germain.
Xavi Hernandez’s side defeated PSG 3-2 at the Parc Des Princes, and they return to Spain with the belief that they can go on to the semi-finals.
Given their astonishing form, there have been reports that Xavi Hernandez could make a U-turn on his decision, opting to remain at the club.
Conditions for Xavi Hernandez to remain at Barcelona
However, two conditions must be met, and they include Barcelona guaranteeing him that he will not lose his marquee players and that he will be able to bring in reinforcements in the summer of 2024.
The Spanish giants have been linked with several key players in recent weeks, including Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.
Meanwhile, regarding Frankie De Jong, the Dutchman has been a player that has attracted the interest of many, Xavi will indeed be looking at keeping him in Catalonia.
Barcelona’s attempt at keeping Xavi Hernandez could also see them attempt to sign Erling Haaland, who they see as a worthy replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Haaland’s contract with the Cityzens expires in 2027, and Lewandowski is currently aged 35 but will turn 36 in August.
It is uncertain if Erling Haaland is keen on leaving Manchester City, but it is unknown if he will be eyeing a move to Barcelona.
The Norwegian has netted 81 goals in 88 appearances for the Cityzens, and he is arguably the best striker in football.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta would love to have Erling Haaland at the club, and he is hoping that he can convince Xavi to remain at the club for the foreseeable future with a promise that they will get the City forward in the coming years.
Anyway, Laporta is focused on fortifying the Blaugrana side, with several notable signings expected to be made in the summer of 2024.
