Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave the club this season after eight seasons.

The England defender is regarded as one of the best right-backs in Europe and The Premier League but he is fast running out his time at Merseyside.

He has a few months left on his Liverpool contract and will be free to enter into contract talks with other clubs in January 2025 if no new deal is in place.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to Marca, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires. The report adds the Reds have yet to broker a new deal with the player and there is an increasing concern that he will leave at the end of the season.

La Liga and European champions Real Madrid have been in the hunt for Alexander-Arnold and are hoping to sign him in January 2025.

While Liverpool still has a chance to tie the player to a new contract, it is believed he could switch to Santiago Bernabeu this January.

The Spanish club have reportedly intensified their move for him following a season-ending injury to Dani Carvajal before the October international break and will stop at nothing to have the player in January or 2025 summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s influence at Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold’s imminent Liverpool exit will be a big blow to the club. The homegrown Merseyside footballer has been a cog in the Reds’ wheel since he made his senior debut in 2016.

He has made 338 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals with 87 assists and is known for his playmaking roles and knack for scoring goals despite playing mainly as a defender.

Speaking recently, Arnold shut down rumors of his imminent exit from the club. According to him, his next contract with Liverpool will be processed behind closed doors as the previous cases and won’t be a public affair.

While Arnold’s submission drown rumors of his imminent Anfield exit, it appears the reverse will be the case, per Marca.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in keeping him on a new contract as he is considered a key player for the squad but there is little or no progress in the direction at the time of filing this report.

Suggestions are that the English defender would have penned down a new contract with the club if he wanted to continue with them.

Hence he is reportedly closer to leaving than staying with Real Madrid his most likely next stop. Nevertheless, Liverpool are reportedly still hopeful of a breakthrough but are nervy since the two parties are running out of time and there is no agreement in place.

Other Liverpool players that may leave at the end of the season

Alexander-Arnold is not the only Liverpool player that may leave at the end of the season. They are reportedly set to lose other high-profile names such as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts will expire at the end of the season.

It has been confirmed Liverpool have yet to begin proceedings to renew the duo’s contract and are closer to losing them than retaining them at the end of the campaign.
