The 2022 transfer deadline witnessed shocking deals completed at the stroke of time as the transfer window closed on Thursday, 1st September 2022. Clubs scramble with last-minute moves to broker deals and bring primed targets.

As the Premier League and the 2022/23 football season kicked off across major leagues in Europe. The 2022 Transfer window opened on June 10, but most transfers were effected from Friday 1 July.

The transfer window was finally shot with significant moves and signings completed immediately.

Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang €14m + Xabi Alonso, Barcelona to Chelsea

Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang’s move from Barcelona to Chelsea is the most dramatic of deadline deals. Chelsea indicated an interest in the former Arsenal striker a few days before the deadline. Intensive negotiations on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st yielded immense results, with the Gabon international returning to the Premier League club to play again under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea. Chelsea signed Aubamneyang on a two-year contract for €14m, with Marcos Alonso included in the deal.

Another shocking 2022 deadline transfer is the dramatic switch of Marcos Alonso. Alonso has played for the Blues since 2016 and has scored 25 goals in his 157 appearances. After a mutual agreement with Chelsea, Alonso’s Chelsea contract was terminated to facilitate his move to Barcelona as part of the Aubamenyang deal.

He has made only 16 appearances for the club. The remaining years have been spent on loan spells. Kennedy has joined newly-promoted La Liga club Rayo Valladolid on a season-long deal.

Justin Kluivert Roma To Valencia

Justin Kluivert’s deadline day switch is another major transfer that shocked pundits. Justin would have moved to Fulham but was denied a work permit, which automatically canceled his proposed move to Fulham opening the way for a switch to La Liga side Rayo Valladolid. A €15m buyout clause has been added to Kluiverts’ loan deal to Rayo Valladolid.

29-year-old former Valencia and Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomez has made headlines on deadline day after joining Lille of France from Everton on a loan deal. Andre Gomes made 61 appearances for Everton without scoring a goal. He had scored 7 for Valencia and scored three times for Barcelona. His poor run of form has compelled the Merseyside club, Everton, to send the player on loan to Lille. Andre Gomes is on a season-long loan deal.
