However, it’s understood that neither of the London teams are willing to pay the Magpies’ £40 million asking price for the French forward. The Premier League opponents were hoping to buy Saint-Maximin for a cheap price due to Newcastle’s recent income after they were purchased by a Saudi Arabian company.

The Athletic claims that a number of European teams, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and others, have looked into buying the 25-year-old striker. The Blues are undergoing a squad makeover during this transfer window, under their new ownership, and it looks that manager Thomas Tuchel is eager to add one more attacker to his front line.

In an effort to bridge the gap between the top two teams from the previous season – Manchester City and Liverpool, Chelsea has already secured the services of Raheem Sterling on a £50 million switch from Manchester City. Although Richarlison’s arrival has eased Antonio Conte’s attacking issues, Tottenham is rumored to have identified the former France under-21 international as a possible target.

But Representatives of Saint-Maximin are eager to sign a new contract in the North East. Though Newcastle United signings this summer have overtaken the Frenchman as one of the club’s best earners. The winger has been told by the Magpies that he must prove his value before getting a pay raise. The 25-year-old scored five goals and provided five assists in 35 Premier League games last season, finishing the campaign as the club’s joint-second-highest scorer in the league.

The forward has won over the hearts of the supporters since moving to St. James’ Park from Nice in 2019, although he has been open about his desire to play in the Champions League. Also, it’s unknown if Newcastle United’s £40 million asking price for Saint-Maximin will turn away prospective buyers as the transfer window closes very soon. Allan Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle United in 2019 from OGC Nice and he has been one of their best players over the years.

The France international earns £93,000 per week, and £4,836,000 per year, which places him as one of the highest-paid players in the club. However, his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League may push him to join other top four clubs because Newcastle United can’t offer him such opportunities. Newcastle United has also made some signings in the current summer transfer window and is looking forward to finishing in the top 10 next season.
