According to reports, Chelsea has completed a medical test on Christopher Nkunku in preparation for a possible transfer to the Premier League club next summer.
In June, the 24-year-old player signed a new two-year extension to his contract at RB Leipzig which was expected to expire in 2026. The new contract includes a €60 million release clause, effective in the summer of 2023.
Despite interest from teams like Chelsea and Manchester City, he renewed his stay with the German Bundesliga side to the dismay of many football enthusiasts.
The France international is expected to leave in the summer of 2023, and preparations for his transfer have already begun.
According to German publication BILD, Chelsea snuck Nkunku in for a medical in Frankfurt soon before the summer transfer market closed.
It was done in preparation for a £53 million transfer from RB Leipzig to Chelsea ahead of the coming summer transfer window.
Nkunku’s excellent performance last season earned him the title of Bundesliga’s best player of the season.
And he’s continued his stellar play, scoring six goals in 11 appearances across all competitions to have a strong start to the new season.
Reports claimed that Nkunku’s secret cardiological examination was overseen by a Chelsea orthopedic surgeon. It was however for a move the following summer, not for the forthcoming January transfer window.
