Thomas Tuchel was given a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2024, after he led Chelsea to Champions League victory just five months after arriving in west London.

Tuchel says he wants to finish his contract with Chelsea, but admits that “history shows us that it isn’t that easy.”

If the German can avoid being fired until then, he will have led Chelsea for three and a half seasons, a feat no manager has done under Roman Abramovich’s ownership.

Tuchel is aware, however, that his prior achievements will not grant him much leeway with the Chelsea management, who demand trophies year after year.
