Mason Mount is likely to depart Chelsea this summer after talks between his agent and the Blues hit the wall over a contract extension.

However, according to reports, Bayern Munich are considering a move for the midfielder with new head coach Thomas Tuchel interested to reunite with the 24-year-old English player.

The German giants, who shockingly replaced dismissed coach Julian Nagelsmann with former Blues head coach Tuchel last week, are apparently interested in signing the England international during the next summer transfer window.

Mount played a key role in Tuchel’s success at Stamford Bridge, as the German manager won the Champions League that year (2021) with Mount on the team.

Long contract discussions between the club and the 24-year-old have cast doubt on his long-term future in west London this year.

According to a report revealed in November, Mount, who is still in contract discussions at Chelsea, reportedly turned down a £200,000 weekly agreement.

In the hopes of earning a salary comparable to that of England teammate Raheem Sterling, who moved to Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer and now earns £300 per week.

There has been no progress toward an agreement between the two sides, and with Mount’s current contract expiring in the summer of 2023, his departure is becoming more and more inevitable.

Despite Chelsea’s desire to recoup at least £50 million from the Englishman, Bayern are reportedly trying to take advantage of the contract deadlock and entice him into a reduced-price deal, as reported by The Times.

With a reported deficit of £121m three seasons ago, and £153.4m the year before, Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly will likely be forced to sell players to remain in compliance with Financial Fair Play rules.

Although having opened contract negotiations with Mount last summer in the hopes of keeping him at Stamford Bridge, Boehly may now feel compelled to move the playmaker after providing Graham Potter with an abundance of midfield choices.

The American co-owner has spent well over £500m on new players in his two transfer windows with the club.

In January alone, he spent £35m for star Benoit Badiashile and £88m on British record newcomer Enzo Fernandez.

Mount has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Manchester United, all of which are looking to bolster their respective midfielders in the summer transfer window.

On the other hand, the 10-time defending Bundesliga champions are also interested in hiring Chelsea’s assistant coach Anthony Barry.

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday that Barry has told the Blues of his desire to leave for Germany with Tuchel, and negotiations are already underway on compensation for the Blues.

Barry stayed at Stamford Bridge after Tuchel’s tenure ended and continued working under Potter as an assistant coach.
