Thomas Tuchel has continued to prove that his predecessor, coach Frank Lampard was not ripe enough to be the manager of Chelsea football club. Since the German Tactician took over from Lampard in January, the club has not been the same again.
Though Frank Lampard wowed everyone during the 2019-2020 season by leading Chelsea to finish the season on the 4th spot despite playing with more academy players, it was a different story during the 2020-2021 season.
The English tactician who happens to be a football legend at the club had the opportunity to sign some of the best players across Europe but he struggled to put them together to compete for the Premier League title.
Before January 25, 2021 things have already gone so bad for Chelsea in the Premier League that a team that was touted to be the league’s title contender was down to the 9th spot on the league table.
Hence, Chelsea’s board had no choice but to allow coach Frank Lampard to go and allowed Thomas Tuchel who was sacked by Paris Saint Germain in December 2020 to take over.
Immediately the German tactician took charge of Chelsea, the club started experiencing a tremendous turn around which pushed the club back to the 4th spot on the league table.
In the 11 league games, Thomas Tuchel had overseen at Chelsea, he has recorded 8 wins and three draws. He is yet to record any defeat in all competitions since he was named the coach of the club.
Besides that, Chelsea’s defense has improved tremendously as the team hardly concedes goals. In fact, in the last 6 games, Chelsea have not conceded a goal; they have kept 5 clean sheets at Stamford Bridge which has broken their 2015 clean sheets record set under coach Jose Mourinho.
On Monday, March 8, Chelsea welcomed Everton to the Stamford Bridge for a league game many thought would end the unbeaten run of Thomas Tuchel. To the dismay of the critics of the coach, Chelsea came out victorious.
A 31st-minute own goal by Everton’s Ben Godfrey and 65th-minute spot-kick by Chelsea’s Jorginho were enough to keep the Blues rooted on the 4th spot and keep Tuchel’s unbeaten run intact.
At the end of the match which saw the German tactician make 5 changes from the squad that beat Liverpool 1-0 on March 4 at Anfield, Tuchel described the second half of the game as excellent for Chelsea.
“We deserved to win”, he said. ‘It was a very difficult first half and we struggled at points to find the right moments for acceleration in the offensive third but we controlled the game completely.
“In the second half, we increased our level and we passed the ball better to escape the pressure. We created many chances and could have scored more goals. I thought the first half was a good performance but the second half was excellent.”

Besides the win, a video surfaced on social media showing footage from the game where Thomas Tuchel was angrily shouting at Werner in German about why he didn’t stick to his position.
He demanded from Chelsea’s £53million signee to return to the right side of the field where he was assigned to play instead of staying on the left side of the pitch.
He said: “Timo, how long are you staying on the left? You’re playing on the right! In the last 15 mins, you’ve only been on the left! Don’t you understand?”

Shortly after he made those comments, Chelsea’s pressure on Everton increased and led to the club’s first goal of the match courtesy of Ben Godfrey’s own goal.
However, Werner didn’t end the game. He was substituted towards the last minutes of the game and didn’t fail to greet Tuchel afterward.
