Thomas Muller, Bayern Munich player and Germany international, and his wife Lisa have been charged with animal cruelty by animal rights group PETA for allegedly selling frozen horse sperm.
PETA has accused Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller and his wife Lisa, a horse trainer, of animal abuse.
PETA has accused the Germany international and his wife of “unnatural sex activities” in their sale of frozen horse sperm for £170 per dose.
The charges stemmed from an injury experienced by the Muller family’s horse D’Avie – which the family purchased in August 2020 – before of mating season, with the animal rights group alleging that their technique was unnatural.
Muller frequently competes in dressage events alongside his wife Lisa, with their stable holding three horses — including D’Avie, Four Roses, and Bowmore, whose frozen sperm is also sold.
However, an injury experienced by D’Avie has resulted in claims of animal cruelty, as this is not normal for horses.
The remarks came after Muller revealed D’Avie’s injury: “Unfortunately, we have some unfortunate news. Our preferred D’Avie will be unavailable for the next few months.
“Unfortunately, he fell violently on his side during a test attempt to prepare for breeding season.
“He sustained an injury to his hoof and will require complete rest for the next few months.
“He’s a tough young man, and things could have been much worse.”
This prompted PETA representative Jana Hoger to express her opposition to Muller’s update, accusing him and his wife of indulging in an unnatural behavior.
“It is abhorrent when self-proclaimed horse lovers coerce animals in their care into unnatural sex practices in order to maximize profit.”
“The injuries sustained by D’Avie while Lisa and Thomas Muller were preventable and unjustified.”
Muller has already expressed his admiration for horses and his enjoyment of spending his free time with them.
“I come here to see if everything is fine,” he previously stated.
“As well as the carrots. I am the carrots’ managing director! I keep an eye on the dogs. Occasionally, I assist a little, but it is her (my wife’s) business.
“I really enjoy it. They make me feel at ease with their attitude, appearance, and (the way they) live their lives.
“It’s enjoyable. It’s simple to unwind in the presence of horses.”
There is no evidence that Thomas Muller or his wife committed any misconduct.
Muller is one of football’s most accomplished players, having scored 224 goals in nearly 600 first-team games for Bayern Munich, as well as 42 goals in 110 international appearances for Germany.
The 32-year-old has amassed an amazing 30 trophies during his career, including ten Bundesliga titles and the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
