Former Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere has been dragged into the ordeal his former teammate at the club Mesut Ozil has been subjected to since the 2019-2020 football season. The 28-year-old ‘out of club’ English footballer said “the truth” about what is going on between Arsenal and Ozil would come out someday.

Recall that Mesut Ozil has been an outcast at Arsenal since the Premier returned from the three months induced coronavirus break in June 2020. Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta has decided not to play the 31-year-old German midfielder since June without any concrete reason.

Though the coach was once quoted as saying that Mesut Ozil was benched because of technical reason, people have been speculating different reasons why Arsenal don’t want to play the former Germany international.

One of those reasons is that Arsenal wants to save cost because there is an amount of money Ozil is entitled to in every match appearance he makes based on the contract he signed with the club. Another reason is that he refused to accept a pay-cut despite earning £350,000-per-week.

Others believe that Mesut Ozil is being punished for supporting Uighur Muslims who are being persecuted by the Chinese government. According to speculations, Arsenal had to punish him because of the club’s business interests in China.

All these remain speculations while Ozil’s football career continues to suffer at Arsenal. He still has less than a year left on his contract but he was not registered as part of Arsenal’s squad for the Europa League and Premier League campaigns.

“I think he’d be a big player in that team,” Jack Wilshere told Sky Sports about the influence Ozil could still have on the current Arsenal’s squad that has lost 5 matches, drawn one, and won 4 league games in 10 matches. The performance has left them in the 14th spot with 13 points.

“I would love to see Ozil play in that team under Arteta but that’s not happening at the moment”, Wilshere added. “He could get on the ball and feed the likes of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette.

“I loved playing with him. He was a top player. It’s a shame, but what is happening is happening, and no one knows but I’m sure everyone will find out one day.”

As for Jack Wilshere, his case is worse than that of Mesut Ozil who he played alongside at Arsenal for five years, winning two FA Cups. The out-of-favor England international is currently without a club since he was released by West Ham United on 5 October 2020.

The 28-year-old midfielder who described West Ham as a small club said he has been talking to clubs and he can only join a new club for a footballing reason.

“I’m in a position now where I can make a decision based on footballing reasons and pick the team that I think I could fit into,” he said.

“I will have a look at the team, the players, the league they’re in, and how the manager wants to play. I don’t think being at a smaller club like West Ham suited me. There have been a few talks with clubs, but nothing that I have ever fancied quite yet.”
