Former Chelsea, Juventus, and Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte, or former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard could be the possible replacement for coach Steve Bruce at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have been receiving rave reviews since Thursday, October 7, 2021, when a Saudi-led consortium bought the club for £300 million.

The successful completion of the takeover deal ended the 14-year ownership era of Mike Ashley which was seen as an unsuccessful era because the club did not win any major title under Ashley’s watch.

Now that Newcastle United would be under the control of an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), Newcastle United are expected to be among the high flying clubs in the Premier League in the coming seasons.

The new owners of the club are reportedly worth over £320 million which means that the owners have more than enough to spend in the January transfer window and beyond.

Since the budget of the club has increased, Newcastle United is reportedly looking for a coach who can utilize the budget effectively and properly manage the pressure of coaching a money-spinning club.

Unfortunately for Steve Bruce who has been struggling with Newcastle United for over three seasons, is reportedly not seen as a worthy candidate for the job under the new ownership.

Steve Bruce has not helped Newcastle United to win any Premier League match so far this season. He has recorded only three draws and four defeats in 7 games. This poor result has landed Newcastle United on the 19th spot on the league table.

Reports in the United Kingdom are speculating that Steve Bruce could be sacked before October 17, the date Newcastle United are expected to play Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park. The game would be coach Steve Bruce’s 1000th game as the manager of Newcastle United.

From all indications, the two coaches that might replace Steve Bruce, if he is sacked before the match, are Lampard and Conte due to their ability to build teams and the fact that they are currently jobless.

Recall that Conte helped Inter Milan to win the 2020-2021 Italian Serie A season before he decided to walk away because he disagreed with the club’s board over the club’s budget.

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to bring Conte to the club ahead of the 2021-2022 season but he decided to stay away because of some undisclosed reasons which are reportedly connected to the transfer budget of the club.

As for Frank Lampard, the English tactician has been jobless since Chelsea sacked him in the second half of the 2020-2021 season.

Lampard was credited to be the coach that laid the foundation for the successes that Thomas Tuchel has been enjoining since he succeeded him at Chelsea.

Recall that after the exit of Lampard, his successor led Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League title and made it into the top four of the Premier League table.

In an interview with Sky Sports after the Saudi-led consortium bought Newcastle United, Steve Bruce confessed that he might not be allowed to continue to coach Newcastle under the new owners of the club.

“I’m happy for the club that this has gone through. It’s a great night for the fans, I’m delighted for them,” Bruce said.

“I want to continue (as manager) but I have to be realistic. I’m not stupid and aware of what could happen with new owners.”

Amanda Staveley, the chief executive of PCP Capital Partners who is now a director on the Newcastle board has said the new owners plan to win the Premier League title. But did not reveal whether the club planned to do that with coach Steve Bruce.

She however noted that it would take a lot of investment, time, and patience for the club to achieve success. She added that the club would need the cooperation of every shareholder at the club for it to progress.

“Newcastle United deserves to be top of the Premier League. We want to get there. It will take time, but we will get there,” she told Sky Sports after the takeover.

“We’re proud to be part of the Premier League. It’s an incredibly competitive league, which we love. Premier League football is the best in the world, and Newcastle United is the best team in the world.

“We want to see it get those trophies, obviously. At top of the Premier League, in Europe, but to get trophies means patience, investment, time. We want everybody to work with us to build the club towards what it needs to be.”
