Manchester United have been plunged into more problems, as midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has reportedly sustained an injury which could see him be out of action for the coming matches.
According to reports from Morocco, Amrabat was absent from his country’s 3-0 win against Liberia on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, due to an unnamed injury.
Sofyan Amrabat didn’t feature in the 2022 World Cup semi-finalist friendly against Ivory Coast on Saturday, October 14, 2023 due to an injury.
He also couldn’t play in the encounter against Liberia in what was Morocco’s final group game in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Sofyan Amrabat injury
Speaking over the weekend, Morocco manager Walid Regragui touched on the unavailability of Sofyan Amrabat.
“We will not hide behind absences, because we knew about Amrabat’s absence before the start of the camp.
“Amrabat can get injured at some point. We must find a solution and alternative, and we have players capable of filling the void that Sofyan will leave.”
The 27-year-old was also forced to exit the camp of Morocco in September due to a back issue.
He was a key member of Walid Regragui’s side, that made it to the semi-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and became the first African nation to achieve that feat.
Sofyan Amrabat joined Manchester United from Fiorentina on a season-long loan on September 1, 2023, for a fee of £8 million.
The Red Devils have the option to sign him permanently from the Italian club next summer for a fee of £21 million.
Since Amrabat’s arrival to Manchester United, he has made 5 appearances for the club, scoring no goal and providing no assist.
The incoming availability of the Moroccan is another massive blow for Erik Ten Hag’s side, given the large chunk of players already absent from the team due to injuries.
Sofyan Amrabat has on many occasions been utilized as a left-back since his arrival to the injury to loan signing Sergio Reguilon, alongside Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
The Red Devils are also without first-team stars like Amad Diallo, Lisandro Martinez, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka amongst others.
Manchester United injury issues
Recent reports have indicated that Manchester United have launched an investigation into why players of the club have sustained many injuries this campaign.
With the club only playing about 11 competitive matches so far this season, the rate at which players have picked up knocks is worrying.
It has been reported that not less than 16 players of Manchester United have sustained injuries this season or are unavailable for selection so far.
Their poor start to the season can also be attributed to the absence of some regulars from the team, with manager Erik Ten Hag not being able to select his best XI.
They sit 10th on the Premier League table, with 12 points from 8 matches, winning 4 and losing 4.
The Red Devils take a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United next in the English top-flight division.
