Recall we reported that Sir Bobby Charlton, United and England legend, died aged 86 in Macclesfield General Hospital on 21 October.

Sir Bobby was living in The Willows in Knutsford, a care home for dementia patients, according to the inquest at Cheshire Coroner’s Court.

Cheshire Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish ruled that his death was accidental.

Sir Bobby was said to have lost his balance as he jumped up from his chair, knocking a window sill and “possibly a radiator” during the hearing.

At the time, staff performed a full-body check and found no visible injuries, and his mobility appeared to be unharmed.

However, they later observed swelling on the back of Sir Bobby Charlton and sent paramedics to the center, where he had been getting respite care since July.

Sir Bobby Charlton was reportedly rushed to a local hospital before being moved to Macclesfield General Hospital in the county.

According to the inquiry, a chest X-ray and CT scan confirmed that he had cracked his ribs and was likely to develop pneumonia.

Doctors eventually agreed that Sir Bobby should be placed on life support, and he died five days later.

According to the inquest, he had a lengthy medical history and had contracted Covid in September.

Tamara Simmons, the care home manager, stated that Sir Bobby Charlton “needed support with all aspects of daily living.”

The coroner confirmed that Sir Bobby Charlton died as a result of trauma in the lungs, a fall and dementia.

Following the inquest, Karen Slater, associate operations director at MHA, which owns the care home, stated that Sir Bobby had only been there for a short time.

“Staff at the home were very fond of Sir Bobby and cared for and supported him, as they do for all our residents,” she stated.

“Our deepest sympathies go to his widow Lady Norma Charlton and his family.”

Sir Bobby, widely regarded as one of England’s best ever players, was instrumental in the Three Lions’ World Cup victory in 1966.
