Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has weighed in on the debate on who is the all-time best manager between Sir Alex Ferguson and the current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Wayne Rooney believed Sir Alex Ferguson’s success at Aberdeen made him a better manager than Pep Guardiola in the greatest ever debate.

In his latest interview, Rooney said, “I think, of course, there are going to be arguments as to who is better, but I think people tend to just look at what Sir Alex did at Manchester United, and what he did at Aberdeen was incredible.”

“And you’d ask the question: could Guardiola do that at a team like Aberdeen? There’s questions, there’s debate, and I think Guardiola for his era is of course the best, and he’s changed the way football is played worldwide, but yeah, for me, Sir Alex, what he achieved in the game is incredible.”

Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United in 2013 as the most successful manager in the Premier League, with huge numbers of honors at the club.

Before joining Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson made Aberdeen one of the most successful teams in Europe. Ferguson remains the only manager to have beaten Real Madrid in a European competition final.

Guardiola’s achievements as a manager started in 2008, when he was signed as the Barcelona manager. He proceeded to dominate the German Bundesliga and the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola won four Premier League titles in a row, something Sir Alex Ferguson failed to achieve during his time at Manchester United.

Guardiola matched Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievement in terms of winning the treble after Manchester City won the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup in the 2022–23 season.

Who has more trophies, Sir Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola?

The Scottish manager won two Champions Leagues, one FIFA Club World Cup, 13 Premier League titles, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Euro Papokal title with Manchester United. He also won Five FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, 10 Community Shields, and one Intercontinental Cup with the Red Devils.

During his time at Aberdeen, Sir Alex Ferguson won the Scottish League Cup, four Scottish Cups, three Scottish titles, one Euro Papokal title, and one UEFA Super Cup.

Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, won two Champions Leagues, two FIFA Club World Cups, three La Liga titles, two UEFA Super Cups, two Copa Del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups with Barcelona.
