    Based on a stunning medical report, the death of football icon Diego Armando Maradona has been linked to cocaine.

    Maradona’s deadly heart attack in November 2020 came on suddenly and it may have been triggered by a “toxic substance”, according to the report.

    Diego Maradona, who was recovering from a brain operation, had a long-term cocaine addiction.

    This brings a new dimension to the criminal case heaped on eight doctors and nurses about to be put on trial regarding how they treated Maradona before he passed away.

    The healthcare personnel were accused of leaving the 60-year-old in pain for hours as his condition became severe.

    The eight, including his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, are expected to spend about 25 years behind bars if found culpable for the death of the 1986 World Cup winner.

    The lawyer to Maradona’s psychiatrist stated that the death could have been through two causes.

    He outlined the possible reasons, saying: “There could have been two causes: one natural and the other, a product of the ingestion of a toxic substance.”

    Diego Maradona kicked the bucket at the age of 60, on November 25, 2020, at a rented building close to Buenos Aires following brain surgery two weeks earlier.

    Maradona’s death shocked many across the globe, with many football enthusiasts wondering the reason why the icon died at such an age.

    Diego Maradona is highly respected in a god-like manner despite his death and during the days when he exited the earth his family and legions of fans were requesting answers over the cause of his demise.

    Police officers raided the homes of his doctors, alongside their offices, with a panel of 20 medical professionals also appointed to thoroughly begin findings on what led to his death.

    Above 200 witnesses will provide evidence at the trial in Buenos Aires which is expected to be on for several months.

    Diego Maradona Football Career

    Meanwhile, Diego Maradona is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever in football history.

    The attacker played for several clubs in his career, accentuating his qualities for sides like; Boca Juniors, Sevilla, Napoli, and Barcelona.

    Maradona scored 159 goals and provided 103 assists in 343 club career appearances.

    Internationally, Diego Maradona scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists in 84 appearances for Argentina. 

    He also delved into management after retirement, coaching sides like; Argentina, Racing Club de Avellaneda, and Gimnasia de La Plata.

    However, his coaching career was not as successful as that of his active footballing career, where he won several laurels and delineated brilliance on the football field.

    Diego Maradona won several trophies in his career, including; 2 Serie A titles, 1 FIFA World Cup, and 1 UEFA Cup.

    Individually, Maradona won the Golden Ball of the 1986 World Cup, although he never won the Ballon d’Or, as only players of European nationality were eligible to win the award during the majority of his career.

    However, the Argentine did receive an honorary award in 1995, which was named the Golden Ballon d’Or.
