The German defender who was widely criticized for his form under Emery has taken a swipe at his former boss on social media. Mustafi who struggled under Emery received a lot of backlash for mistakes made on the pitch. He was also in and out of the team during Emery’s spell at the club but has since found his form again under new manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal fans are convinced that the center-back has taken an aim at his former manager Unai Emery with a post on social media. Arsenal who is currently training in Dubai saw the Gunner defender post a subtle message that has gotten everyone talking. Apart from training, the trip is said to be a bonding experience for the teammates and their family and will also see the Gunner boss get to know his team better.

Mustafi seems to take likeness to Arteta more than his former boss and decided to take aim at his previous manager’s communication skills with a post on his Instagram account.

A picture of Mustafi and Arteta obviously engaged in a conversation had the following caption: “Communication is the key to improvement.”

Emery was often criticized for his lack of communication while the manager at the North London giants. Players have also admitted to his lack of communication and direction as they were often confused by instructions given on the pitch.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno compared both managers and recently said, ”Before it was, I don’t want to say a mess, it was a little bit confusing, everybody was doing different things and we were not a team – not in the dressing room, not on the pitch, and you could see this. I think with Mikel it changed completely. The first day he came he was not talking too much about tactics, he was talking about how we behave in the dressing room, when we go to the games we have to be more professional, more like a team.”

Mustafi seems more confident under new boss Arteta, and have featured in six of the nine games Arteta is in charge of thus far. Arsenal will face Newcastle when they return from winter break. Arteta’s side is looking to put an end to their four games winless streak in the Premier League.
