Sheikh Jassim is interested in signing Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe if he completes buying Manchester United.
Sheikh Jassim is among the front runners intending to purchase a controlling share at Manchester United, as part of a Qatari group looking to take over the club.
Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are rumored to be two of the most serious admirers of the Glazer family’s sale of a majority stake in the Old Trafford club.
While Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group values the Old Trafford club higher, Sheikh Jassim has offered 5.5 billion pounds to purchase 100% of the club.
However, their goal is only to gain control of Man United, which would still leave the Glazers in charge.
Regardless, the Sheikh is said to have outlined a daring transfer strategy should he be successful in his bid.
According to reports, Jassim already has a list of transfer targets lined up when he takes over, and Kylian Mbappe is on that list.
Jassim wants to go for several players to bolster Manchester United’s first team, including the France international, Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga.
Coman currently plays for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga. At age 26, he has maintained the remarkable feat of having won a league title in each of his eight professional seasons.
Meanwhile, Camavinga may represent the next wave of French talent. Real Madrid, who are pursuing fellow midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, are trying to renew the 20-year-old’s contract despite growing interest from Manchester United.
Man United, however, would face stiff competition if they try to sign Mbappe, as Real Madrid has shown a persistent interest in the French youngster.
Paris Saint-German has the option to extend Kylian Mbappe’s contract by one more year at the end of the current campaign. His current deal runs through the summer of 2024.
Kylian Mbappe’s contract and salary with Paris Saint Germain;
Mbappe signed a massive three-year contract to stay at Parc des Princes in May 2022, amidst speculation that he would leave for Real Madrid in the upcoming summer.
His current agreement will therefore be up for renewal in June 2025.
Mbappe’s new contract is worth €630m in total compensation.
His reported monthly salary of €6 million is reduced to €2.7 million after taxes.
According to reports, Mbappe’s contract contains several stipulations but no performance bonuses.
A €180m signing bonus will be paid out over three years and will be paid in full regardless of whether or not the player stays with the team.
In addition, he will receive a €70 million loyalty payment at the end of the season, which will increase annually.
Manchester United takeover bid in brief;
Last week, Man United received its third and final offer, many believe that Ratcliffe has a higher valuation for the club than Sheikh Jassim, who had been the frontrunner for much of the bidding process.
Under Ratcliffe’s current offer, Joel and Avram Glazer would continue to hold shares in the team.
The two Glazer brothers, the members of the family most heavily involved in the running of the club, would be allowed to stay, according to insiders familiar with the process being led by US merchant bank Raine Group.
The remaining piece, which is currently held by several investment groups, is expected to be maintained as well.
The American family’s decision to sell the club has been clouded by a lengthy bidding process that has seen Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim each submit three bids in three different stages.
What’s next for Manchester United?
Manager Erik ten Hag will be hoping to finish in the top four of the Premier League and possibly beat out city rivals Man City for the FA Cup.
So, if the proposed Qatari takeover goes through, Old Trafford will be set up for a transfer windfall.
