Sheffield United vs Manchester United Preview: Team News Probable Line-Up, Prediction

Sheffield United will face United on Saturday, 21st October 2023 with Sheffield rooted to the foot of the table following a winless start to the campaign.

Erik Ten Hag’s men on the other hand are languishing in 10th place and are already eight points behind the summit.

    Match Preview

Sheffield alongside Bournemouth are two Premier League teams that are yet to win any game this season in the Premier League.

The hosts have only managed to pick up one point from their opening eight matches since securing promotion from the Championship.

Sheffield United lost their seventh league match against Fulham who won them 3-1 just before the international break.

Sheffield United also saw their player Chris Basham get a gruesome lower-leg injury which was sustained in the match and he will be sidelined for long.

Sheffield have recorded the worse ever start to the Premier League season so far and a loss to United will add more woes to their injury.

Should they lose against United, they will become the first club in English top-flight history to claim just one point or fewer from their opening nine matches of multiple seasons, after doing so in 2020-21.

United on the other hand came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 in injury time, thanks to goals from Scotland international Scott McTominay.

This is coming after United had lost at Old Trafford to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.

The Red Devils are currently in a sales saga that has recently seen Qatari investor Sheikh Jassim withdraw his multi-billion pound bid and Sir Jim Ratcliffe edge closer to securing a 25% stake.

However, Erik Ten Hag’s men are looking to building a positive run of form as they attempt to close the five-point gap that separates them in 10th from Liverpool in fourth spot.

Rhys Norrington-Davies (thigh), Ben Osborn (groin), Max Lowe (ankle), George Baldock (calf) and William Osula (muscle) are all closing in on a return, but Saturday’s game will likely come too soon for the quintet.

Manchester United on the other hand will be without Casemiro who has been ruled out with a “small issue” sustained on international duty with Brazil.

The Red Devils will face Sheffield United without Martinez (foot), Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka (both muscle), Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo (both knee) and Kobbie Mainoo (ankle).

Sofyan Amrabat might also be absent from the squad after withdrawing from the Morocco squad but he has been in training alongside Raphael Varane (knock) and Sergio Reguilon (hamstring).
