Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo, said signing Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid was a mistake he has taken responsibility for.

Recall that after the contract between Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid expired on June 30, 2021, PSG decided to bring him to France on a free transfer.

Despite being 34-year-old then, the French club decided to offer him a two years contract on July 8, 2021. This means that he is expected to stay at the French club until June 30, 2023.

Since he arrived at PSG, Sergio Ramos who is regarded as one of the best defenders of all time has managed to make 5 appearances in which he scored a goal.

He played such a few amounts of goals because of injuries, fitness issues, and suspension. Ramos has been red-carded once already at PSG.

In the five games he has played for PSG in the 2021-2022 season, Ramos has managed to play full 90 minutes in two games, a development that is not pleasant for the top hierarchy at PSG.

Recall that Sergio Ramos spent 16 years of his career at Real Madrid scoring 101 goals and providing 40 assists in 671 games in all competitions despite being a defender. He helped Real Madrid to win 22 trophies.

But the 35-year-old Spanish defender has been a shadow of his former self since he arrived at PSG where he has been struggling to remain as fit as expected.

“We signed him and he was physically fine. But as of today, he has only played five games”, Leonardo told L’Equipe.

“Unfortunately, what we imagined of him at our club did not happen. It is difficult for him, for everyone.

“Not playing makes it difficult for him to be a leader. We will wait before concluding, the season is not over.

“But I am not afraid to take responsibility for mistakes when I make them.

“Nasser gives me total confidence. It gives me real autonomy and for that, I thank the club.”
