Recall that after spending 10 successful years at Manchester City where he won five Premier League titles, Sergio Aguero joined FC Barcelona on a free transfer on July 1, 2021.

Unfortunately for the 33-year-old Argentine football icon, he did not last more than three months before he developed a heart condition that left him out of football until December.

On December 15, 2021, FC Barcelona organized a press conference in honor of Sergio Aguero. During the press conference, the Manchester City record goalscorer announced his retirement from football due to the heart condition.

Before the heart-related condition, Aguero managed to score just a goal in a total of five games for FC Barcelona.

Before he left Manchester City for FC Barcelona, the retired Argentina international scored a whopping 260 goals and provided 73 assists in 390 games in all competitions. To date, no Manchester City player has been able to surpass Aguero’s goals record at the club.

Since he retired from football, the Argentine footballer has been maintaining a low profile while he continues to battle his heart condition. But recently, Sergio Aguero had a chat on Twitch via which he revealed that it has now become difficult for him to sprint due to his heart condition.

“If I try to play football-tennis now, I run out of breath when I want to sprint”, he said. “I just feel like my heart doesn’t work properly.”

When Aguero first developed the heart condition, he was optimistic that he could get well and return to active football. Unfortunately for him, his medical advisors made it clear to him that it would be difficult for him to return to full fitness, hence, he had to hang his boots.

According to the Argentine footballer, he had it so bad in the first 15 days after he was diagnosed with the heart condition. However, he thought it was something he could wave off.

“The first 15 days I had a terrible time”, the retired footballer said.

“When it happened, I thought it was nothing and that I was going to be fine, but when I arrived in the hospital and they left me in a small room alone with a lot of monitors around me, I realized something was bad.

“And after two days hospitalized, I started to become nervous.”

Sergio Aguero is currently enjoying his retirement under the care of his lover, Sofia Calzetti. They have been dating since 2019 but it has not been confirmed whether they have a child together.

However, Aguero has a son named Benjamin. The boy was born in 2009 by Giannina Maradona, Aguero’s estranged wife and daughter of late Argentine football icon Diego Maradona.
