Aurier, who is 30 years old, turned out for Ivory Coast in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Zambia.

The current Nottingham Forest defender was left red faced after scoring an own goal from 25 yards out.

An awesome defence-splitting pass was played through their backline with Aurier attempting to clear out the ball.

However, his effort cannoned off of his foot as he slipped under pressure from Rangers star Fashion Sakala.

He shot the ball towards goal, with goalie Charles Folly Ayayi failing to stop the ball from going into the net despite his save attempt.

The unusual and hilarious incident left fans in stitches, with a fan saying: “Keeper threw it into the net 😭😭😭.”

A second fan added: “Glad he’s still got that in his locker. Never change king.”

A third fan who wasn’t surprised at Sergie Aurier added: “Never change Serge Aurier lol.”

“That’s unreal😭😭,” the fourth fan added in the already hilarious comments on the own goal.

A fifth fan penned: “It was going to happen at some point in his career. Surprised he didn’t do it at Spurs… funny though.”

While the last one added: “Good old Serge… the gift that keeps on giving. Tho’ he seemed to play a lot better for Forest than he ever did for us!😂.”

Ivory Coast eventually lost the game 3-0 with Leicester’s Patson Daka and Kangwa both scoring in the second half.

Serge Alain Stéphane Aurier is an Ivorian footballer who was born on 24 December 1992 and plays as a right-back for Nottingham Forest and captains the Ivory Coast national team.

The Ivorian moved to France as a child and played for Lens, Toulouse and PSG, winning 11 major trophies with the latter.

While at France, Aurier made 195 appearances in the league and was twice named in Ligue 1’s Team of the Year.

Serge Aurier joined Tottenham in 2017 for a fee of around £23 million and left after mutual termination of his contract in August 2021.

At the international level, he made his debut for Ivory Coast in 2013 and has earned over 80 caps, serving as captain since 2017.

Serge Aurier also represented the nation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning the 2015 edition.
