Samuel Eto’o has expressed regret over his “violent incident” with a World Cup supporter at Brazil and Korea match.
However, the former striker has claimed that “certain Algerian supporters” have been harassing him “everyday” and that this has caused him to lose his patience.
After Brazil defeated South Korea, shocking video of Eto’o appearing to KNEE someone in the face surfaced.
After arguing with a man holding a camera, who has now been identified as Algerian video journalist “Sadouni SM,” the former Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea player was left enraged.
Eto’o attacked the YouTuber in the last moments of the video before being escorted away.
Later, Sadouni stated: “I did all this for Algeria. Eto’o broke my camera and microphone and hit me on the chin.”
“I am at the police station for the investigation. This video must be shared.”
“As Eto’o is famous, I am afraid that they will hide the case, but I trust the Qatari police.”
Eto’o, 41, has since apologized for his conduct on social media, saying he lost his cool after being “harassed everyday” by Algerian supporters.
After a contentious victory over their continental rivals earlier this year, Cameroon secured their World Cup spot.
Algeria demanded that the second leg of the play-off be replayed because they were so upset with the refereeing.
Eto’o, who is currently in charge of the Cameroon FA, asserted that Algerian supporters have been harassing him ever since.
On social media, Eto’o stated: “On last 5 December, after the Brazil-South Korea match, I had a violent altercation with a person who was probably an Algerian supporter.”
“I would like to apologise for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality. I apologise to the public for this unfortunate incident.
“I pledge to continue to resist the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian supporters.”
“Indeed, since the Cameroon-Algeria match on 29 March in Blida, I have been the target of insults and allegations of cheating without any evidence.”
“During this World Cup, Cameroonian fans have been harassed and pestered by Algerians on the same subject.”
“I would like to mention that the scenario of Algeria’s defeat was cruel but perfectly in line with the rules and ethics of our sport.”
“All the appeals made by the Algerian Football Federation to the competent jurisdictions have been rejected.”
“I therefore call on the Algerian authorities and Federation to take their responsibilities to put an end to this unhealthy climate before a more serious tragedy occurs.”
“To Fennecs’ fans, I wish that they find peace and manage to overcome the disappointment of a painful defeat, now behind us.”
What Did Samuel Eto’o Do?
At the World Cup in Qatar, football star and current president of the Cameroon FA Samuel Eto’o was seen on tape punching a man outside a stadium.
A striker was seen leaving Stadium 974 in Doha after seeing Brazil upset South Korea in their round of 16 match in a stunning video.
Eto’o, who has previously played for Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, made an effort to grin for selfies with waiting fans as he left the arena before a man with a video camera approached him to his right.
The two then appear to be discussing in the La Opinion-obtained footage, which then abruptly cuts to a few seconds later with Samuel Eto’o returning to the scene to confront the man.
What was said to enrage Samuel Eto’o, who is in Qatar as the World Cup 2022 Legacy Ambassador, remains unknown. However, he retorted aggressively and began to shove the cameraman.
Several witnesses try to defuse the situation at this point, but Eto’o was desperate to find the man and had to be restrained as he attempted to face him.
Samuel Eto’o then gave a man his phone while being confined by four men in the following scene of the video. He then emerged from the crowd and kicked the man in the face with his knee, knocking him to the ground.
The brutal blow appeared to have been delivered as the man stooped, completely unaware of Eto’o, and then turned to resume the dispute.
