Arsenal are not slowing down on their bid for the Premier League title this season as they saw off Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth to extend the lead at the top to four points.
Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Declan Rice’s goals saw the Gunners eased to a 3-0 victory to consolidate their grip on the Premier League title race.
The home side had a commanding control of proceedings from the start. Bukayo Saka was a constant threat on the wings but Bournemouth were equal to the task with a strong defensive display. Bournemouth goalkeeper Travers stole the spotlights early in the game with a series of spectacular saves that kept the Cherries in the game.
Five minutes before the break, the visitors’ effort was soiled after Travers clipped down Kai Havertz in the box. The referee pointed to the spot but the incident was called for VAR review and it was confirmed as a foul meriting the spot kick.
Bukayo Saka made no mistake as he wrong-footed Travers, firing a low shot into the back of the net to give Arsenal the lead. The goal was enough to send the Premier League title hopefuls to the break with a lead.
Bournemouth started the second half with a more promising performance but failed to find the back of the net.
However, a more spirited second-half display still left the away side with hopes of a comeback as Arsenal seems to struggle to make advances into the opponents’ half as before.
In the 70th minute, Arsenal doubled the lead against the run of play. Declan Rice had flicked a stunning back pass with his left foot to Leandro Trossard. Left unmarked in the opponent’s box, Trossard made no mistake as he fired past Travers to make it 2-0.
Three minutes after Leandro Trossard’s goal, Bournemouth found the back of the net. Semenyo had headed home a rebound inside the box but the goal was chalked off for a foul on David Raya by Solanke. It was a controversial decision but after a VAR check, the on-field decision, ruling out the goal, stood.
In the last touch of the game in the 90+7th minute, substitute, Gabriel Jesus, found Rice with a throughball inside Bournemouth’s box and the England midfielder scored with a terrific strike to wrap up the win for the Gunners.
It ended 3-0 after the final whistle with Arsenal easing to a deserved victory to open a four-point gap on top of the table, having played two games more than challengers Manchester City.
