Former Barcelona forward, Ronaldinho does not recognize teammate Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time but just the best player of his era.
Obviously, everyone regards the Barca playmaker, Messi as one of the best players in the world. And defining him as the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T).
But the Brazil ace does not think the Argentine is the greatest of all time despite his honors and record-breaking. Saying it is just for his time.
Messi won a record sixth Ballon d’Or earlier this month, taking him ahead of long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Also, the first player to win the quadruple awards in a season.
He yet scored his 35th La Liga hat-trick to break Ronaldo’s set record of 34 hat tricks before joining Juventus.
While the 34-year-old Portuguese is going through a drop in form over the past year in Serie A. The 33-year-old Argentinian keep sparkling in Spain with Barca.
Though, missing his early-season action through injury, Messi is already leading the scoring lists in Spain’s top-flight. Having 12 goals from just nine matches while Karim Benzema of Real Madrid has 11 from 14 games.
Leo has been particularly impressive over the past six weeks, scoring 13 times in 10 games for club and country. Despite this fact, Ronaldinho disagrees with the popular notion about the forward.
Ronaldinho’s statement in Mexico:
“I’m glad for Messi because he’s a friend, aside from the fact he’s been a leader of Barcelona.
“I don’t like comparisons because it’s hard to identify who is the best in history. There’s Diego Maradona, Pele, Ronaldo.
“I can’t say that Messi is the best ever, but he is the best in his time.”
According to his speech, Ronaldinho is doubtful about the ideas that Messi is the greatest to ever play football. Though, the Brazilian spent the best part of his four years as Messi’s team-mate back in Barcelona.
