Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has recently shown that the Spanish giants are not ready to back out from their pursuit of Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.

He was quoted as saying that Madrid will have news on Mbappe on January 1, 2022. The expected news the club might have concerning the 22-year-old French striker could be that Mbappe and Madrid have reached an agreement.

“In January we will have news on Mbappe”, Perez told Spanish paper El Debate.

“Hopefully, everything can be sorted on January 1.”

After his aforementioned statement went viral, Spanish publication, Marca reported that president Florentino Perez was miss quoted.

To debunk that he said Madrid would have news on Mbappe in January, Perez stressed that what he said was that the club would have to wait until 2022 to hear from Mbappe.

“My words were misinterpreted”, the Real Madrid president said.

“What I said is that we have to wait until next year to hear from him, always concerning PSG with whom we have good relations.”

Recall that Real Madrid have been very interested in the services of Mbappe over the years. The Spanish giants took their interest in the French footballer a step further by making different offers to PSG but the French club turned them down.

Recently, Mbappe took it upon himself to clear the speculation that he told PSG he was interested in leaving the club on the deadline date of the 2021 summer transfer window.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner reportedly revealed that he had told PSG long before the transfer window closed that he was interested in leaving.

This means that Mbappe is more on the side of Real Madrid than the side of PSG with less than a season left on his contract with the French side.

As Madrid are pushing to sign him, PSG are pushing to offer him a new contract before his current contract expires on June 30, 2022.

Hence, the French side showed ahead of the 2021-2022 season that they are not happy with the approach Real Madrid are using to push for the signature of Mabppe.

In confirmation of how unhappy PSG are over the interest of Real Madrid in Mbappe, PSG’s sporting director Leonardo had to remind Madrid that Mbappe is still under contract.

“It’s been going on for two years,” the Brazilian told French sports daily L’Equipe. “I just remind you that the transfer window is closed, that a season is underway.

“There are matches and Real Madrid cannot continue to behave in this way. “Let it stop! Kylian is a player of Paris St Germain and the club wants this relationship to last.”

As it stands, the Spanish side might offer Mbappe a pre-contract in January 2022 since he is free to talk to other clubs then. Afterward, the French football star might wait at PSG until the Summer of 2022 before he would join Madrid for free.
