Real Madrid have reached an agreement to re-sign Shakhtar Donetsk wonderkid Vinicius Tobias until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish powerhouse have signed a deal with Shakhtar to keep the right-back who was on loan to Real Madrid last season.
Vinicius Tobias’ new deal reportedly includes a valuable buy option
Fabrizio Romano also disclosed that Real Madrid will pay a loan fee of 500,000 euros to the Ukrainian side.
However, the 14 times UEFA Champions League winning club can secure the acquisition of Tobias permanently next summer for just 15 million euros.
But the clause will not make it mandatory for Real Madrid to sign the Brazilian International permanently under any circumstances.
Vinicius Tobias with Real Madrid last season
Vinicius will continue his journey at Real Madrid in the 2023/2024 La Liga season.
The fullback played in all 35 games for Real Madrid and started 30 of them. The club still wants to retain him despite his limited playing time in the post-season. Perhaps they will come to understand the value of his buy option and activate it.
The 19-year-old will depart from Shakhtar without a single first-team appearance to his inscription, having originally joined the Ukrainian club from Internacional in January 2020.
Before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2022, Vinicius Tobias spent the majority of his formative years back in Brazil.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in April 2022 resulted in his temporary release from Shakhtar. And until the end of the 2022–23 season, the 19-year-old was on loan to Real Madrid.
This past season, the Brazilian phenom played for Real Madrid Castilla in the UEFA Youth League. Tobias made 40 appearances in the season, five of which he assisted in. The young player’s future has been unclear, but it looks like his time with Real Madrid will continue in a matter of days.
Thus, he will play in the 2023–24 season for Real Madrid’s reserve squad. However, if the youngster keeps improving, he may get a shot at replacing Dani Carvajal in the first squad.
What makes Real Madrid keen on Vinicius Tobias?
Vinicius is one of Brazil’s most promising young players, and he can switch positions depending on the situation.
The Shakhtar defender is primarily a right-back, although his size, speed, and crossing abilities allow him to play in other positions as well.
In preparation for Carlo Ancelotti’s first squad next season, Madrid has considered signing him as a right-back backup.
Vinicius has been discussed as a potential long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, who both played in that role last season but failed to impress.
What’s Next for Vinicius Tobias?
Whether or not Vinicius Tobias can maintain his current level of play at Real Madrid and secure a permanent transfer worth €15 million remains to be seen. He’s getting close to signing a loan deal to play for Los Blancos again in 2023/24 season.
