Real Madrid veteran defender Nacho Fernandez has signed a two-year deal with Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.

The 34-year-old Spaniard joins the newly-promoted SPL side as a free agent after his contract with Los Blancos expires at the end of June.

Renowned Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed the news in the wee hours of Thursday, June 27 that the former Madrid captain will now be playing in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Nacho’s decision to join Al Qadsiah came after he led Madrid to a historic Champions League and La Liga double last season, captaining the team to victory.

Despite being in advanced talks with Al Ittihad, Nacho opted for Al Qadsiah and reportedly did his medical in Germany while on international duty with Spain.

In a farewell message, Nacho Fernandez expressed his gratitude to Madrid, stating, “I’m so grateful to Real Madrid.”

“Until a few days ago, I hadn’t signed for my new club and Madrid told me they would be there if I changed my mind”

“I always had clear that if I didn’t finish my career at Madrid, I wouldn’t want to play against them. To experience something new, something different is my desire. My life is going to be turned upside down but that’s what I want. I’m very happy.”

He joined the club at just 10 years old and has been an integral part of the team’s success for the past 23 years.

The 34-year-old explained his decision to leave, saying, “I could have stayed one more year, but there’s nothing left to win with this jersey. It doesn’t mean I’m lacking ambition. I thought it was the right time. I am calm and confident with the decision I’ve taken.”

Nacho’s legendary career at Santiago Bernabeu spanned 12 seasons, winning a joint-club record 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles.

As he begins his new journey in Saudi Arabia, he leaves behind a legacy at Real Madrid that will be remembered for generations to come.

The former Real Madrid captain, Nacho arrived in Madrid’s youth system at the age of 11 and has since devoted his entire career to Los Blancos.

Nacho Fernandez amassed over 300 appearances and clinched numerous trophies during his stint with Madrid.

Overall, Nacho won a total of 26 trophies, standing as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.

Furthermore, among his achievements are six Champions Leagues, a feat matched only by Madrid legends such as Paco Gento, Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos, and Dani Carvajal.

In addition, Nacho also made a name for himself at the International level after he earned his first senior cap for Spain in 2013.

He has also represented his country at prestigious events such as the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024.
