Real Madrid frightened Thibaut Courtois could be unavailable in weeks to come due to an injury

Spanish side Real Madrid are frightened that Thibaut Courtois could be unavailable for selection after he picked up a knock on International duty for Belgium. 

Courtois carried on for the entire duration of the game in an encounter which signaled the first match of Domenico Tedesco as manager of the Red Devils of Belgium. 

According to the Belgian FA, the Real Madrid goalie exited the national team base on Sunday due to safety measures after straining an adductor muscle. 

And based on reports from Spanish media outlet Sport, Real Madrid are afraid that the injury lay off could keep Courtois out of action for a lengthy time.

Thibaut Courtois would not be available for the Red Devils of Belgium friendly encounter against Germany on Tuesday. 

According to the Spanish outlet, Real Madrid think the Belgian shot-stopper might be out of action for the next three to four weeks. 

If the injury is worse than imagined, the Belgian goalie could be unavailable for Real Madrid in several key fixtures.

Even though Los Blancos are out of the push for the La Liga title due to the fact that they are 12 points behind Barcelona, they battle the Blaugrana side in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey Semi-final following their loss by 1-0 in the first leg.

Courtois is also expected to be unavailable for Real Madrid in both legs of their UEFA Champions League  quarter-final clashes against Chelsea. 

Cumulatively, Real Madrid play 6 games in the next 18 days and the knock has sent shivers down the spine of the Spanish club, with fear over the effect it could have on their campaign.

The 6ft goal keeper got back to Madrid on Sunday and he was expected to go through the appropriate medical examinations on Monday to understand the full length of the injury. 

This is the third injury Thibaut Courtois has picked up this campaign and he is expected to be replaced by back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. 

Courtois, the Belgian shot-stopper has made 20 appearances in the La Liga for Real Madrid this campaign, keeping 6 clean sheets in the process. 

He signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 and he has garnered 213 appearances for the Spanish heavyweights. 

Courtois was last in competitive action on Friday as Belgium ran out 3-0 winners against Sweden in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. 

The Red Devils of Belgium are 2nd in Group F as they have accumulated three points out of only a game played so far. 

Real Madrid are also facing a notable absentee with David Alaba sidelined with injury and has been unavailable for the Spanish side since the 21st of February, 2023. 

His return date is uncertain and he could be joined in the treatment room by Thibaut Courtois who suffered a minor strain.
