Real Madrid are plotting a shock move for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, according to reports in Spain.
Problems between Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid President Florentino Perez seem to have stacked steam to an area that the team is said to have been looking for a suitable replacement for the Italian coach.
Perez has expressed his discomfort over some of Ancelotti’s recent decisions. Firstly, the President does not like the fact that the Italian manager is not giving enough chances to the likes of Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos.
According to some insiders, Perez has mainly told Ancelotti that the dependency on Toni Kroos and Luka Modric should reduce.
Considering the pair’s age, his request is reasonable; however, it is strange that he would make such a demand just days after it was reported that the manager views the midfielders as the backbone of his project.
This season in La Liga, Real Madrid have had a hard time keeping their head above water. The team is currently down in the Copa del Rey semi-finals and is nine points behind the league leaders.
There is a good chance Ancelotti will be fired if he is unable to improve the team’s performance. And in this case, Madrid are making plans for the future, and one Mikel Arteta stands out as a possible successor.
The Spaniard has completely changed Arsenal’s course in a short amount of time, to the point where they now hold a five-point lead in the Premier League. Throughout three seasons as Arsenal manager, he has amassed a 97-win, 25-tie, and 44-loss record.
Arteta has assembled a talented young team that plays attractive, attacking football, which has caught the attention of the Real Madrid hierarchy. It will be difficult to get him to leave the Gunners, though.
The Gunners have been brilliant under Arteta’s leadership this season, and they have a chance to win the Premier League for the first time in nearly 20 years. His efforts in North London have not gone unnoticed in Madrid, and Ancelotti may consider him as a replacement if he decides to leave.
It is unclear whether Arteta, who served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City before the latter was hired as head coach at Arsenal, would accept the position of manager at Real Madrid if offered the chance.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has claimed that he is fully focused on Arsenal following the speculation surrounding his transfer to Santiago Bernabeu.
