Real Madrid and the club’s coach Carlo Ancelotti are on the verge of winning the 2021-2022 Spanish La Liga title. The Spanish La Liga giants need to beat Espanyol on April 30 to seal their title win.
Earlier in the 2021-2022 season, the Spanish La Liga campaign was looking like a one-club race. It was practically looking like Madrid would stroll to the title with little or no stiff competition.
But when FC Barcelona decided to sack coach Ronald Koeman and bring in a club’s legend, Xavi as Koeman’s replacement, the season took a new turn. FC Barcelona began to enjoy a winning streak that pushed them to the second spot on the league table.
Barca that were hoping to finish in the top four this season suddenly became a title contender especially after defeating Real Madrid 4-0 away from home.
As Barca’s fans were celebrating that Xavi has reinvigorated the club, the club started losing games in a row. Unfortunately, Barca have lost their last three games.
The game that is about to put the nail on the coffin for Barcelona was the 1-0 home defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, April 24, 2022. The defeat left FC Barcelona on the 2nd spot with 63 points in 33 games, 15 points below second-placed Madrid.
Based on this, Real Madrid are fully in control of the Spanish La Liga title race. Once they beat Espanyol on April 30, they will garner 81 points in 34 games. Once that happens, even if they lose their remaining four league games, and FC Barcelona win their last four league games, Xavi and his men can no longer overtake Madrid.
Fortunately, the Real Madrid and the Espanyol game will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu which could be a huge added advantage for coach Carlo Ancelotti and his men.
Real Madrid and coach Carlo Ancelotti’s history in La Liga
Real Madrid are inarguably the most successful football club in the world. They have won the Spanish La Liga a record 34 times. That means that if they win the 2021-2022 Spanish La Liga title, it would become the club’s 35th title in the history of the league.
The last time Real Madrid won the Spanish La Liga title was in the 2019-2020 season. Just a season after, they are currently a win away from another La Liga title.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti, the former coach of relegation-threatened Premier League club, Everton, is the man that is leading the reformed Real Madrid side.
The 62-year-old Italian tactician is not new in the business of trying to win the Spanish La Liga title. Recall that Ancelotti was the coach of Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015. Though he won every other major club title for Madrid during that era, he failed to win a La Liga title.
Hence, if he wins the 2021-2022 Spanish La Liga title, that would be his first league title in Spain as a manager. And that will make him the first football manager to ever win the Premier League, the German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, and now the Spanish La Liga. Ancelotti is about to become the only coach in the world to win the league title of all the top five leagues in Europe.
