It was a bad day for Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford soon as England lost the Euro 2020 finals to Italy. All three of the England players mentioned above missed Penalty kicks, as a result, England lost and many fans who are racist began sending hate messages and very toxic derogatory messages to the England player online.
Marcus Rashford was the first to miss the PK, his shot hit the bar, then Leonardo Bonucci (Italy) scored for Italy. It was Jadon Sancho’s turn to take the PK, but Italy goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma saved it, and he also saved Bukayo Saka’s Penalty.
As soon as this happened, people started sending very nasty messages to these England players, they called them the N-word, monkeys, and a lot more.
The FA issued a statement following racial attacks on 3 black England players
“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team,” said the FA in a statement.
“We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.
“We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.
“Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse.”
