Ex-Netherland International Quincy Promes is set to face trial for supposedly smuggling 1,370 kilograms of cocaine.

The country’s public prosecutor’s office disclosed that Promes is said to have been involved in importing two sets of cocaine of about 650 kg and 713 kg each.

Based on a report from Dutch media outlet, NOS, the separate batches were blocked in Antwerp in January 2020.

Quincy Promes alongside a Dutchman in the same age bracket have both been indicted for importing cocaine via a port in Belgium.

Media outlets in Netherland have reported that initial hearing will take place on the 5th of June, 2023.

Questioned by Dutch tabloid Parool over the matter, Quincy Promes’ legal representative Robert Malewicz refused to comment on the allegations.

However, Malewicz will give additional explanation during the hearing which would be held next Monday.

He said: “I will provide a further explanation during Monday’s hearing.”

Quincy Promes will not be at the hearing as he would be in action for Spartak Moscow, with the Russian Premier League ending on Saturday.

The 31-year-old Dutchman is also facing an indictment of aggravated assault after he was accused of hurting a cousin in the knee with a knife.

The tussle ensued during a family event in Amsterdam in July 2020 and the Dutch court asked for a two-year prison sentence in March.

Quincy Promes had firstly been indicted with premeditated murder, although the judge reckoned there was no evidence to substantiate attempted murder.

The former Sevilla winger has in the past claimed his innocence over the matter, although, he has since been heard confessing to the stabbing in a police wire-tap.

The ending of this matter is likely to be heard on Monday, the 5th of June, 2023.

During the time, the accusation regarding attempted murder was levelled on him, Promes was playing for Ajax.

He afterwards made a switch to Spartak Moscow in February 2021 where he has made 78 appearances and scored 40 goals.

The move to Spartak Moscow in February 2021 was his second stint with the Russian club, having previously represented the Moscow based club from 2014 – 2018.

He made 50 appearances for the Oranje of Netherland and scored 7 goals, after making his debut for the national team in January 2014.

His last appearance for Netherland came in August 2021 during a Euro 2020 encounter in the country’s round of 16 defeat to Czech Republic.
