Kylian Mbappe scored a late winner for PSG as the Parisians overpowered a stubborn Nice to go top of French Ligue 1.

PSG needed to win the game to maintain their top spot on the French Ligue 1 table and continue with their unbeaten run in the 2022-2023 season.

Marseille are also unbeaten this season with only two points separating the two in the first and second spot respectively.

Marseille had usurped the top spot after a convincing 3-0 away victory over Angers on Friday 30 September, 2022.

Goals from Clauss, Suarez, and Gerson ensured that they go a point clear of PSG who had a game in hand.

PSG, as usual, pulled a strong performance against their visitors dominating the game and making frantic efforts to find the back of the net.

Nice gave a strong performance and equally contested for a good possession of the ball, but were far outplayed by the star-studded Parisians.

20 minutes into the game, former Barcelona and Argentine playmaker Lionel Messi increased his French Ligue 1 tally this season to 7 goals.

A powerful and excellent free-kick from 20-yards eluded the Nice goalkeeper as the rocket shot curled into the top right corner of the post.

PSG finally took their deserve lead after the free-kick, but had to battle a more aggressive OGC Nice who desperately pushed to find an equaliser.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the first half ended with PSG maintaining their 1-0 lead as they went into the break.

However, Nice opened the second half with a more improved performance as they made attempts to find an equaliser in the game.

They marked out Messi and successfully tracked down Christoph Galtier’s tactical plan, giving the French Ligue 1 giants a tough run.

After minutes of a sustained and improved effort by Nice, they finally got their equaliser in the 47th minute through the boots of 28-year-old French forward Gaëtan Laborde.

Afterward, PSG slowly won back their dominance in the game and began suppressing Nice as they sought to return to their lead.

It was a fruitless attempts as Nice successfully defended and ward off attempts in their half to keep the game on a tie.

Christoph Galtier had to take off Hugo Ekitike and bring in their talisman Kylian Mbappe who made the difference in the game renewing the Parisian’s attack.

Mbappe finally break the goal deadlock after he slotted home Mukiele’s cutback in the 83rd minute to restore the lead and return PSG to the top of the French Ligue 1 table.

Christoph Galtier is yet to record a defeat this season and has won eight matches and drew just once so far.

They are leading the French Ligue 1 table with 25 points, 2 points clear of second place Marseille who are also yet to record a defeat this season.

After PSG’s Champions League outing against Benfica on Wednesday, October 5, they will return to French Ligue 1 action against Reims on October 8 away from home.
