Kylian Mbappe has lifted the lid on his infamous fallout with PSG in his first press conference after signing for Real Madrid.
In quotes shared by Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe, the prolific forward said PSG told him in his face that he is not going to play again as the 2023-24 season was about to kick off.
According to him, two of the club’s decision-makers sporting director Luis Campos and manager Luis Enrique saved him.
“Paris St Germain told in my face at the beginning of the season that I was NOT gonna play anymore”.
“Luis Campos and Luis Enrique saved me”.
In the buildup to his PSG exit, the red-hot forward was submerged in a seething contract renewal row. While PSG wanted to renew his contract, Mbappe remained adamant on his decision not to renew.
It was common knowledge he was eyeing a move to Real Madrid, having turned down a proposal from the club in 2021. PSG reportedly knew Mbappe’s intention to leave for Real Madrid but pressed the buttons to either sell the player or have him sign a new deal.
At the height of the faceoff, Mbappe was frozen out of the first team and dropped from the club’s preseason tour.
However, the two parties were able to find a middle ground after Mbappe threatened to sit out on the bench throughout the season instead of being forcefully sold.
Real Madrid announced Kylian Mbappe’s signing on Monday, June 3, ending a dramatic transfer row between the player and PSG.
Reacting to his move to the LaLiga giants, Mbappe took to social media to express his happiness to join the Football Club of his dreams.
Sharing pics of his teenage years beside a wallpaper of the Real Madrid team and the club’s icon Cristiano Ronaldo, be wrote;
“A dream come true,
So happy and proud to join the club of my dream @realmadrid
Nobody can understand how excited I am right now.
Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. J
¡Hala Madrid! 🤍🤍🤍
Mbappe will take up the number nine shirt as revealed by Fabrizio Romano but is expected to wear the number 10 shirt when Luka Modric leaves the club.
